We will extend our earlier study of metapopulations to include many more situations, including systems with many competitors, and also express some ideas of how metapopulations relate to other approaches for modelling spatial ecological systems.  Our focus will include a discussion of how useful the whole metapopulation metaphor is in light of more realistic descriptions of real population dynamics.
